Sint-Martens-Latem & Deurle

Auberge du Pêcheur is located in the picturesque village of Deurle, part of the municipality of Sint-Martens-Latem. The village is renowned for its idyllic landscapes, distinctive villas and strong artistic heritage. In 2008, Deurle was named one of the most beautiful villages in Belgium. A stroll through the village centre is therefore a must during your stay. Admire St Martin’s Church, explore the various museums and artists’ homes, and let yourself be enchanted by the picturesque scenery that has inspired generations of artists.

Discover the beauty of the Leie region and the surroundings of Ghent on foot or by bike. Several scenic walking and cycling routes start from Auberge du Pêcheur, taking you along the River Leie, through picturesque villages and across the region’s lush green landscapes.


Our reception team will be happy to help you plan your route and has a selection of walking and cycling trails available. Some routes start directly from Auberge du Pêcheur, while others require a short drive to the starting point. Feel free to ask us about the options and choose the route that best suits you.


Bike Rental

Would you like to explore the region by bike but prefer not to bring your own? Through our partner, Fietsen Godefroot, you can easily rent an electric bike. Your bike will be delivered to Auberge du Pêcheur at your reserved time.


Prefer to bring your own bike? That is also possible. During your stay, you can store your bike safely at our premises.

Ooidonk castle

In the backyard of Auberge du Pêcheur, nestled in a lush bend of the River Leie, lies the impressive Ooidonk Castle. Surrounded by water and an extensive park, the castle exudes tranquillity and elegance. Its idyllic setting gives little indication of the eventful history that lies behind it.


The medieval castle is a beautiful example of Spanish-Flemish Renaissance architecture. After being destroyed several times, it was rebuilt in 1595 into the elegant fortified castle we know today. With its distinctive stepped gables and striking onion-shaped towers, the Castle of Ooidonk is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Belgium.
